Herald Online:
Ex-Cameron aide detained over alleged perjury
“Andy Coulson, 44, was detained by Scottish police at his home in London over an accusation related to testimony he gave in a high-profile case at Glasgow’s High Court in 2010, when politician Tommy Sheridan was himself convicted of offering a false account in a legal hearing.”
“The prime minister’s ties to both Coulson and their mutual friend Rebekah Brooks, an ex-chief executive of Rupert Murdoch’s News International, have brought the tabloid phone hacking scandal to Cameron’s doorstep.”
UPDATE 05/30/12 Reuters:  Coulson has now been charged with perjury over phone hacking
I can’t put my finger on it, but I just have a major feeling that some of the hidden puzzle pieces laying about regarding who really was responsible for 911 are going to fall into place as this case proceeds.

07/08/11  Guardian: UK David Cameron’s former press sec. Andy Coulson has been arrested (he was released 2 days later)

Ex-Murdoch editor charged over UK phone-hacking scandal
“Brooks, 43, was charged with concealing material from detectives, conspiring to remove boxes of archive records from Murdoch’s London headquarters, and hiding documents, computers and other electronic equipment from the police. If found guilty she could face a prison sentence.”
“Also charged were Brooks’s racehorse trainer husband Charlie Brooks, her secretary and other staff including her driver and security officials from News International, the British newspaper arm of Murdoch’s News Corp media empire.”

Rupert Murdoch’s Fox broadcast licences (var.) targeted by US ethics group
“A Washington-based ethics watchdog is calling on federal regulators to revoke News Corporation‘s 27 Fox broadcast licences in the wake of the highly critical report on phone hacking from the UK parliament.”
“Pryce-Jones said he blamed News Corp’s independent directors for much of what had gone wrong. The directors include top US lawyer Viet Dinh, chief architect of the USA Patriot Act, Joel Klein, the former chancellor of the New York City department of education and Rod Eddington, former chief executive of British Airways. ‘They have said that they are going to act, but they have done nothing. They need a Plan B. Plan A was apparently to ignore this and hope it would go away,’ he said.”
Big story, but WTF is this about an NI Board of Directors person being a “chief architect of the USA Patriot Act” !?!?!?

DN!
British Parliament: Rupert Murdoch Not Fit to Run Media Company
“A British parliamentary report has found Rupert Murdoch is ‘not a fit person’ to run a major international media company in light of the widespread phone hacking scandal at News Corp. A committee of British MPs said Murdoch and his son, James, showed ‘willful blindness’ about the scale of phone-hacking at the News of the World tabloid.
Labor MP Tom Watson spoke soon after the report was released.”

Excerpt from Tom Watson’s statement: “The very cornerstone of justice is that those really responsible are held to account, that the rich and powerful are as low in the face of the law as the most humble and weak. And everybody in the world knows who is responsible for the wrongdoing of News Corp.: Rupert Murdoch. More than any individual alive, he is to blame. Morally, the deeds are his. He paid the piper and he called the tune. It is his company, his culture, his people, his business, his failures, his lies, his crimes, the price of profits and his power.”

Brilliantly stated!

Guardian UK:
David Cameron called to Commons to face urgent question on Jeremy Hunt
David Cameron is to be required to make an urgent Commons statement about the culture secretary, Jeremy Hunt, a development that will infuriate No 10 and strengthen its suspicion of the Speaker, John Bercow.”
“David Cameron will cut short an election tour to make the Commons statement on Monday afternoon, amid pressure on Hunt over his handling of News Corp’s bid to take full control of BSkyB.”
Appears that it is PM Cameron’s turn to get to hop on the hot seat.

Jakarta Post:
At inquiry, Rupert Murdoch defends 50 year record (sic)
“Murdoch was being quizzed under oath before an inquiry run by Lord Justice Brian Leveson, who is examining the relationship between British politicians and the press, a key question emerging amid the phone hacking scandal that brought down Murdoch’s News of the World tabloid.”
“Speculation that Murdoch was seeking to inflict political pain on the Cameron’s Conservatives mounted Tuesday when his son James gave damning testimony about British Olympics czar Jeremy Hunt. The younger Murdoch released documents that suggested that the Conservative minister had secretly smoothed the way for News Corp.’s proposed takeover of British Sky Broadcasting Group PLC, a lucrative satellite broadcaster.”
Sounds like cracks are emerging in the Murdoch family dynasty.

Lawyer: Times of London Being Sued Over Email Hack
“According to an account of the lawsuit published in Britain’s New Statesman magazine, [Richard] Horton’s lawyer raised the possibility that the detective’s Hotmail account had been illegal accessed — an allegation dismissed as ‘baseless’ in 2009 by Times lawyer Alastair Brett.”
“However, in public statements and in testimony before an official inquiry into media ethics, senior Times managers admitted that one of their reporters had accessed Horton’s account.”

Guardian UK:
News International braced as lawyer brings phone-hacking scandal to US
“[Lawyer Mark] Lewis will arrive in the US on Saturday and next week will begin legal discussions in New York, just a stone’s throw away from News Corporation‘s global headquarters on Sixth Avenue. His arrival constitutes a major escalation in the legal ramifications of the hacking scandal for Murdoch, who has tried desperately to keep it away from the American core of his multi-billion-dollar media holdings.”
“An irony of the arrival of Lewis in the US is that it comes soon after James Murdoch, Rupert’s youngest son, relocated from the UK to New York partially, it is thought, in a move to try and distance him from the phone-hacking scandal. “
This news signals, IMHO, that we will ultimately learn that the “phone hacking” alone pales in comparison to a much more stunning “bankster” revelation.  Ready to take a ride? Hang on to your seats.

James Murdoch to step down as BSkyB chairman
James Murdoch will step down as chairman of BSkyB shortly, after the man who had been thought of as Rupert Murdoch’s corporate heir concluded it was no longer worth hanging on and risking a critical verdict from MPs inquiring into phone hacking.”
His determination to step down at this point has surprised friends, given that only a few weeks earlier James Murdoch resolved to stay on a Sky even as he relocated to New York and gave up his job as executive chairman of News International, the publisher of the now closed News of the World, the Sun and the Times.”

“[...]The MSC’s work is earning respect from many who have clashed with the company over phone hacking. But it also faces criticism on multiple fronts, including News International journalists who fear it is tossing loyal staff under the bus, parliamentarians who suspect it is insufficiently independent of Murdoch, and lawyers who allege the committee’s main interest is in repairing the company’s reputation, not outing the truth.” [emphasis mine]

They are demanding source information be handed over.”
Murdoch actually has the power to demand that the UK govt treat his papers as though a military action?!? NoW Reporter Clive Goodman Alleges Huge Cover-UP, Wide Knowledge of Hacking
“Clive Goodman, the former royal reporter jailed for his role in phone hacking, wrote a letter in 2007 claiming that phone hacking was ‘widely discussed’ at editorial meetings, and that former editor Andy Coulson offered to let him keep his job if he agreed to say in court that he was a rogue element within the paper.”
“The Guardian’s Nick Davies also reports that Les Hinton, the former Dow Jones chief who resigned amidst allegations about his role in the scandal, received a copy of Goodman’s letter but failed to pass it to the police. He then told Parliament that Coulson was completely unaware of the hacking going on.”
This damps down and muddies up Murdoch’s Empire of Dirt considerably.

“Well-sourced information coming out of the Department of Justice and the FBI suggests a debate is going on that could result in the recently launched investigations of News Corp. falling under the RICO [Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations Act,] statutes.”
“Among the areas that the FBI is said to be looking at in its investigation of News Corp. are charges that one of its subsidiaries, News America Marketing, illegally hacked the computer system of a competitor, Floorgraphics, and then, using the information it had gleaned, tried to extort it into selling out to News Corp.; allegations that relationships the New York Post has maintained with New York City police officers may have involved exchanges of favors and possibly money for information; and accusations that Fox chief Roger Ailes sought to have an executive in the company, the book publisher Judith Regan, lie to investigators about details of her relationship with New York police commissioner Bernie Kerik in order to protect the political interests of Rudy Giuliani, then a presidential prospect.”

Murdoch’s Well-Connected Point Man on the News Corp. Hacking Probe
The man tapped by Rupert Murdoch to oversee News Corp.’s internal probe of wrongdoing by the company has some elite qualifications. Viet Dinh went to Harvard and Harvard Law School, clerked for Justice Sandra Day O’Connor, served as assistant attorney general early in the Bush administration, co-authored the Patriot Act, and now teaches corporate law at Georgetown University Law Center.” (emphasis mine)
“He also is best friends with the U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of New York, Preet Bharara, who is leading the U.S. investigation into the company.
Interesting how small the circle is when masters of corruption investigate their own. No amount of turmoil going on right now should take the ball off the Murdoch empire, as much as they are trying to do just that.

Police arrest Greg Miskiw of Delray Beach in NotW phone hacking probe Aug 10 2011

“Greg Miskiw, 61, one of the few senior editors at the time of the phone-hacking who had not yet been arrested, told Britain’s Channel 4 news last month he was preparing to return from his Delray Beach home to Britain to talk to police. Miskiw returned to England after the Palm Beach Post reported July 20th that he was quietly living in a tropical hideaway in downtown Delray Beach, just blocks from the ocean.”
“Detectives said the man had been held at midday after he arrived by appointment at a London police station on “suspicion of unlawful interception of communications” and conspiring to commit the same offence.”

” ‘The attorney general has met with 9/11 family members on a number of occasions and would welcome the opportunity to meet with them to discuss any concerns,’ spokesman Matthew Miller said.”
The Daily Mirror, a British paper, reported that the Rupert Murdoch-owned News of the World had offered a former NYPD officer money for the phone records of people killed in the World Trade Center. The Mirror story said that the city cop turned down the offer.”

“Willing” to meet? It’s his duty as a public servant! I sincerely hope that among these families are the Jersey Girls because they (and as far back as 2004, 66% of NYC residents and 56% of New Yorkers) will push for a new, full-supoena, under oath, investigation into 911. Of course, Holder may have selected those families who remain in the dark, which is so, so sad.

Murdochs were given secret defence briefings
“The extraordinary access that Cabinet ministers granted Rupert Murdoch and his children was revealed for the first time yesterday, with more than two dozen private meetings between the family and senior members of the Government in the 15 months since David Cameron entered Downing Street.”

If this story is accurate, then even the UK’s Education Department was compromised by meetings with the Murdoch media empire. “Cozy relationship” is not strong enough to describe this conspiracy between politics and media to manipulate and control the storyline given to the public, with elements of the police handily thwarting The Truth. In the U.S., our political climate today has the fingerprints of the Murdoch mafia all over it—some of which show up in AIPAC, the (hijacked) Tea Party, and “planted” Democrats .

Sky News: James Murdoch Misled Inquiry

07/19/11

11:18 MT I’m currently watching the Murdoch hearing being conducted by the UK Parliament. I keep hearing Ms. Brooks respond to various questions with a refrain to the effect that since the police saw no further investigation needs “back then”, she and News Corp. also saw no need. But wait a minute. Of course they didn’t because they allegedly bribed elements in police dept to drop the investigation in the first place. Duh.

David Cameron’s full statement on phone-hacking scandal

I would suggest that President Obama start getting his ducks in a row now and address this because this is going to sweep right across America, into the halls of Congress, between the newpaper sheets, underneath the feet of AIPAC, and over the walls of the Pentagon before resting at the doorstep of the Rothschild-inspired Federal Reserve and IMF/WB before we reach April 2012. As I mentioned in a July 2010 post, “If the Awakening taking place on this planet runs its natural course, we will witness an exponential takedown of Parasitic Energy that has allowed the Powers That Be to huddle unseen in the nest of Mind Parasites.”

Guardian UK:
News of the World hacking whistleblower found dead “Sean Hoare, a one-time close friend of Coulson’s, told the New York Times the two men first worked together at the Sun, where, Hoare said, he played tape recordings of hacked messages for Coulson. At the News of the World, Hoare said he continued to inform Coulson of his activities. Coulson ‘actively encouraged me to do it’, Hoare said.”
“In September last year, he was interviewed under caution by police over his claims that the former Tory communications chief asked him to hack into phones when he was editor of the paper, but declined to make any comment. Hoare returned to the spotlight last week, after he told the New York Times that reporters at the News of the World were able to use police technology to locate people using their mobile phone signals in exchange for payments to police officers.”

If News Corp. actually paid him to get drunk and do drugs with celebrities just to get stories, then News Corp. surely did not have the best interests of their employee at heart, did they. They took him out one way or another and his death and medical history should be investigated thoroughly. Abuse of employees for personal benefit is yet another organ to which this cancerous empire has spread. But of course, the far right does not believe employees should have unions or basic rights to begin with.

Murdoch’s multifaceted tentacles stretched far beyond news, but I’m sure yet more tentacles are yet to appear.

Annie Machon (former M15 intelligence officer) on ex-CEO Brooks’ arrest

I have greatly admired Ms. Machon over the past few years for her courage to blow a whistle on corruption. I live in a comunity of very diverse thinkers. My very informal poll yesterday revealed that 11 out of 13 of us believe that if there is another major “terrorist” attack here or in Europe over the next 12 months, they would not believe we would receive the whole truth about it. Three of them went further—they would see it as a distraction from current corruption scandals and government unrest. Roughly 84% of us (5 repubs, 2 independent, 1 green, 5 dems) expressed little or no confidence they would get the truth from government .

In light of the colossal revelations in the Murdoch case on the corruption of police, media, and politics in the UK, it would be appropriate to revisit the UK 7/7 “terrorist” attack in 2005 with fresh eyes and ears. Watching this documentary, it is more than coincidental that the “official playbook” matches closely with our own “terrorist” attacks on 9/11.

(~Later – Well, now she has been released. Would it be a stretch to consider that the roots of his empire run so deep into international geopolitics, PowersThatBe would be willing to sacrifice even Murdoch as their frontispiece in order to quell public scrutiny and deflect any investigation into its ultimate source? I’m thinking Netanyahu, for one ).

Murdoch’s Dow Jones CEO Resigns Amid Scandal

Murdoch’s Dow Jones CEO Resigns Amid Scandal (Graeme Roberts on Getty Images) July 15 2011

For what it’s worth, I had a “flash vision” just before waking this morning, surrounding the words “blackmail” and “blue” memeing into this news event—an unexpected turn of events over the next 11 days. Just FMI.

AJE:
Rebekah Brooks, Top Murdoch Executive, quits over hacking “Prior to the announcement of the resignation on Friday, Murdoch had vowed that Brooks had his total support and some had condemned him for moving to close the paper, while Brooks kept her job.
News of the World printed its final edition on Sunday , and some 200 hundred journalists were laid off as News International struggled to respond to the scandal. But others within the Murdoch establishment had become increasingly critical of Brooks’ ongoing leadership.”

Dramatic news, given Ms. Brooks apparently was tapped to be the firewall in front of James Murdoch. Now, the cheese stands alone. Rupert Murdoch should take the $12B he was about to invest in BSkyB and divvy it up to help farmers suffering economically with the Texas drought/Somalians in their crisis famine, the healthcare of first responders of 911, easing the Greece/Ireland/Portugal “austerity” measures, and other causes to uplift Humanity—something that actually would be admirable. Of course, (silly me) he would never give a thought to improving lives; his business is trashing and violating not only the living, but, allegedly, the dead.

PM Cameron’s Official Announcement of a Public Inquiry into the Phone Hacking Scandal

Reuters:
Crisis-hit News Corp withdraws Sky bid
” Parliament was due to pass a non-binding vote later in the day calling on Murdoch to drop his bid after allegations emerged that journalists at News Corp’s UK newspaper arm had hacked into the phones of a murdered school girl and dead soldiers to generate stories.”
“BSkyB shares were down 1.2 percent after the news, after falling around 20 percent since July 4 when the hacking scandal at tabloid News of the World worsened, prompting the government to launch an inquiry into journalistic practices and phone hacking.”
“”Ian Whittaker at Liberum said it was difficult for News Corp to continue with the bid following the ‘savage attacks’ being dealt out in parliament.”
” ‘Probably they also didn’t want the spotlight on them,’ he told Reuters. ‘There are worries about it spreading to the US.’ “

Ah, they don’t like the “spotlight”? Fear of the Light is a sure sign that only the surface has been scratched on the currently “downwardly mobile” Murdoch Empire. And they may as well not waste time “worrying” about the spread to the US — the train has already left the station on that one and what a ride this is gong to be. The train carrying Murdoch and the Israeli/Palestinian issue may be revving up at the station soon.

911 victims family members’ private conversations may have been hacked

Since the subject of 911 has surfaced in this colossal scandal, I am reminded of the second largest shareholder in Fox News—Murdoch’s pal Saudi Prince Al-Waleed bin Talal . The tenacles of the News Corp. beast reach very far indeed:

MSNBC: Former 9/11 Commissioner Bob Graham states that “Saudi Arabia Gave Assistance To At Least 2 Of The 9/11 Hijackers“

Reuters: NOTW reporters tried to access 9/11 phone data: report “Citing an unidentified source, the newspaper said journalists had wanted the phone numbers of the dead as well as details of the calls they had made and received in the days leading to the attacks.”
Doesn’t it seem very strange that wanting to listen to the phone messages of 9/11 would be done just to get “news stories”? It feels to me like more of a surveillence operation; wanting to hear messages made in the days leading up to the 9/11 attack. Did they want to listen in to see if anyone had conveyed prior info that could later refute the “official story” given by our respective governments? Were police investigators paid to keep quiet about aspects of these attacks? Think about that. I don’t feel this was about listening in on pre 9/11 everyday messages, or on post 9/11 family calls just to hear the distress and emotions of members here.

Newsweek:
Carl Bernstein: Hacking Scandal Is Murdoch’s Watergate

Carl Bernstein: Hacking Scandal Is Murdoch’s Watergate (Reuters) July 11 2011

But now the empire is shaking, and there’s no telling when it will stop. My conversations with British journalists and politicians—all of them insistent on speaking anonymously to protect themselves from retribution by the still-enormously powerful mogul—make evident that the shuttering of News of the World, and the official inquiries announced by the British government, are the beginning, not the end, of the seismic event.”
“News International, the British arm of Murdoch’s media empire, ‘has always worked on the principle of omertà: Do not say anything to anybody outside the family, and we will look after you,’ notes a former Murdoch editor who knows the system well. ‘Now they are hanging people out to dry. The moment you do that, the omertà is gone, and people are going to talk. It looks like a circular firing squad.’ ” (emphasis mine)

Wow. Great analysis from one of the best. Adding a little levity (and giggles) in drawing comparisons between Nixon’s Watergate and Murdoch’s Hackergate are the crack team of panelists at “Fresh Perspectives“.

And now we see the British Parliament flinging daggers of blame at each other. Hey, politicans are grown-ups—they knew what they were doing was amoral at best. That goes for governments around the world. As is said, What a tangled web we weave when we practice to deceive.

Guardian UK:
Phone-hacking scandal: Ministers and Mr Murdoch
“For two or more years the normal checks and balances that should operate in a functioning democracy did not work very well in relation to the phone-hacking scandal at the News of the World which is now being stripped bare. The police were – in Alan Johnson’s words – “dishonest, evasive or lethargic”. The press regulator was feeble. Parliament was, with one or two honourable exceptions, ineffective, if not positively intimidated. And the ultimate bastion of our freedoms, the fourth estate, turned a partially blind eye. For a long time it looked as though an awful lot of people just wanted the story to go away.”
“Wednesday’s action in the House of Commons has finally ensured that the discreet burial of the affair won’t happen. In response to effective questioning from the Labour leader, Ed Miliband, the prime minister conceded the need for at least one public inquiry to look at the behaviour of the police as well as the media. That announcement, together with belated but more focused police and PCC investigations, as well as numerous civil actions, means that the truth of a squalid period in British public life will finally emerge.”
I tell you true, cleansing of ruthlessness, greed, avarice, darkness on this planet now reaching higher corridors of power signals a crescendo in the energy of Truth/Enlightenment. BTW, those who still walk this planet carrying the Whole Truth about the 9/11 tragedy in the recesses of their darkness/fear better start doing alot of Soul Searching now. To come forth with an open heart will literally Set You Free. It must be said, however, that We The World Publc, have been implicit accomplices because of a low-vibration voyeurism that has propped up their systems and given it all free reign to spread their tenacles.

Update 07/07/11 News Corp to close News of the World My hunch is that this move is all about giving Murdoch time to get to and destroy evidence if they can. My other hunch is that this will expand to his other news outlets; this was not isolated to the News of the World paper.

No other country would allow one man to garner four national newspapers, become the second-largest broadcaster and hold monopoly on film rights and first-view movies..” British Labour Party MP, Chris Bryant

Beware! Murdoch holdings in America include FOX News Channel, Wall Street Journal, New York Post

07/04/11 Raw Story:
Murdoch-owned tabloid ‘tapped phone of murdered girl’: report
“In a grim new twist to the long-running phone-hacking row at the Rupert Murdoch-owned News of the World weekly, The Guardian said police were investigating claims that Milly Dowler, who disappeared in 2002 aged 13, was among those targeted.”
“Journalists at the News of The World hired investigators to hack into Dowler’s phone and listen to increasingly desperate messages left by her parents and friends as the days went past without any word from the teenager, the report said. When her voicemail box became full, they deleted a few of the messages to make room for new ones — an action that her loved ones mistakenly took as proof that Dowler was still alive and using her phone, it said. It also caused confusion among the police detectives investigating her disappearance, and potentially destroyed valuable evidence, the report said.”
This is a ruthless, void-of-morality chapter in the world of news reporting. At the end of 2009, I made a little list of “predictions” covering 2010 thru 2012 as an experiment in intuitive skill. Prediction #8 was: Rupert Murdoch (media monopolist) will lose his grip on either his news empire or on his personal fortune. It will be interesting to see how this develops.

Phone-hacking: growing list of The Disappeared
“The paper became twitchy and since 2005, when the Taylor hacking took place, there has been a steady movement of people out of the paper’s headquarters in Wapping, east London.”

responding, as on the ropes, as it ever has in its 60-year history. News Corp. only knows how to be the aggressor; now it’s on the defensive—and it has to defend itself against the very thing that it has always been, that has always protected it, that is the reason for its fundamental pride: Its newsrooms are down and dirty.”
“And now there’s a deer-in-headlights, I-am-not-a-crook, I-did-not-have-sex-with-that-woman video: a hapless correspondent at the hapless Fox Business channel asking Murdoch about the scandal and him, on his own air, growing dark and angry and refusing to answer, then leaving his minion to shuck and jive and apologize. The video, from more than a year ago, just after the scandal first broke, is suddenly back in viral circulation.”
You know, #10 on my just-for-fun “2010 predictions” page was, “Rupert Murdoch (media monopolist) will lose his grip on either his news empire or on his personal fortune.” Only time will tell. :???:

Politico:
Fox to partner in Arabic news channel “The National’s Ben Flanagan (disclosure: my successor at the Abu Dhabi-based paper) reports that Prince Alwaleed bin Talal of Saudi Arabia is planning to partner with Murdoch’s Fox network on a 24-hour Arabic-language news channel. They’ve recruited Saudi journalist Jamal Khashoggi, former editor of Al Watan, to head the station. No launch date has been reported.”
This spurious partnership of super controlling media moguls seems more frightening to me than being caught in the middle of an armed robbery. Something might change down the road, though.

World for 9/11 Truth:
OUTFOXED: Rupert Murdoch’s War On Journalism “This film will show you how media empires and their popular channels (CNN, MSNBC, ABC, FOX, and all the others) can be used to shape opinions, to control a debate and even to influence a population into wars. This film also unveils some of the most obvious propaganda techniques these media use in order to bring about subjective points of views instead of real objective work.”
“You will never see Fox News and their big ‘pundits’ the same way again after watching OUTFOXED. And you will understand some of the reasons why we often hit hard on the frustrating work of the media regarding their coverage of the 9/11 Truth Movement.

Guardian UK:
Murdoch could block Google searches entirely ” ‘The people who simply just pick up everything and run with it – steal our stories, we say they steal our stories – they just take them,’ he said. ‘That’s Google, that’s Microsoft, that’s Ask.com, a whole lot of people … they shouldn’t have had it free all the time, and I think we’ve been asleep.’ “
Yea Mr. Murdoch! Charge! Charge! Money! Money! News should never be free–it should be controlled! No free press right, Mr. Murcoch? [The Truth is that advertisers are dropping off MSM like flies and that independent news reporting is the Wave of the future.]
