Stop Cartel:
Occupy’s ‘Shut Down the Corporations’ Action: Building Change One Action at a Time
“On the local Portland level a thousand people braved some of the worst weather of the year to demonstrate against a few of the corporate and legislative members of the American Legislative Exchange Council (ALEC), that insidious organization where corporations, lobbyists, and legislators conspire to write laws favorable to those corporations at the expense of individuals everywhere. While admittedly doing only token financial damage to these corporations during the brief ‘shutdowns’, public consciousness of the issue was and still is being raised. What was once a little known shadow agency has become exposed.”
The OWS movement in 2012 will be a far more equipped agent of change. Over the winter, this government has given thousands more people reason to be angry—from all walks of life.

Occupy Medford Goes Christmas Caroling
“Tonight at 6:00 p.m. Occupy Medford went Christmas Caroling at the Rogue Valley Mall. A flash mob of 16 people sang Occupy variations of the songs “Jingle Bells” and “It’s Beginning to Look a Lot Like Christmas”. The response was positive from the people who stopped for a moment to observe. After completing our 3rd round of singing Mall Security made their presence known, civilly asking us to leave.”

Injured Occupy Portland Protester to Testify at City Council Hearing on Police Accountability
“When he heard about the opportunity for public testimony at the City Council hearing Thursday, [Justin] Bridges decided to speak out against police brutality and to speak up for accountability. ‘The fact that there are children going hungry in this country is a travesty. Governments and corporations must be held accountable for their actions. That’s what peaceful protesters are trying to do, and then we’re met with violence from the police. All people should be held accountable for our actions.’ “

OccupyPortland support swells into thousands to defend the park
Occupy Portland: Police take back two parks, but protest moves to Pioneer Square
I watched this several-hours “stand-off’, which started at midnight and ended roughly 4:30-5 a.m. PST on the OccupyUnity live stream. I arrived to view the stream ~10 min. before the policeman was hit by an object. When I first started watching, an estimated 7000 people had come to support the Occupy. Then an estimated 75-100 bicyclists showed up to surround the park, placing their bikes wheel-to-wheel to provide a barrier to the park. More people showed up and an aerial view shown on a split screen clearly showed more than 7000 people–all four streets leading to the intersection were jammed with people. I’m still searching for a copy of that aerial view. OccupyUnity then split the screen to show what Faux News was saying about the ongoing event compared to what we were witnessing, unedited as it occurred
A policeman apparently hit by an object thrown by a “protester.” Several Occupy members grabbed the offensive man and turned him over to the polce. Faux news didn’t mention that. Additionally, while the only videos I’ve found show only the “noisyness” of the crowd. They became very quiet in the last1.5 hours or so. Completely peaceful.
Sometime around 4 a.m., after a stand-off of several hours, the outfitted ”stormtroopers” were given the order to pull back from the standoff. Faux news was reporting that protesters pushed the police back (yeah, right). People in the live stream chat room were watching other MSM stations and reporting; we were told that a suggestion was made on CNN that these “supporters” had come out of local bars! HUH?!? When’s the last time you can even three drunk people be peaceful and orderly. We also heard about that bit of rubbish at the time a middle-aged CPA was being interviewed. He sure sounded sober to me and certainly not a man who would have remained around a “drunken mob.” Really, it was an eye-opener
A police spokesman came to the park and spoke with someone from Occupy. It was agreed that the occupiers could remain in the park if the protesters and supporters would get off the streets. (By this time, many supporters had gone back home and 1500-2000 remained.) The protesters not only cleared the streets, but the Occupy sanitation team cleaned the streets of any and all rubbish!
When it was all over, the protesters chanted “Thank you” and other affectionate words. At the time, protesters thought the PortlandOccupy stand-off and how it was handled by BOTH sides would be a model for how police should conduct themselves while protecting our 1st Amendment rights.
However, the police returned today when there were only 60 or so in the park, and fell back on brutal tactics, which is such a shameful thing for weaponized cops to be doing to unarmed people. Then their tents were bulldozed (remember Rachel Corrie, right?).
The Mayor has decided to shut down all the parks, as though that is going to stop this moving Occupy train? Thousands came out in support in the middle of the night when the eviction was imminent. In Oakland, after that heinous use of force by police and the serious injury of an Iraq vet, military vets all over the country came to support Occupies around the nation! And, in Oakland, 100,000 people showed up to show us all what Democracy looks like. No, shutting down public spaces is not going to dampen this movement but thrust it forward.

“The Occupy Together movement comes to Salem today [Oct 10 2011], with a rally on the Capitol steps at 12:30 p.m. followed by a planned sit-in at Willson Park.”
“Workers for Service Employees International Union Local 503 are expected to be there in force, to support what has become a series of demonstrations across the nation, local President Linda Burgin said.”
Portland Mercury: Occupy Portland Day Six Update“Who would have thought that an anti-establishment protest would turn into a love fest for the local police force? The widespread support for the Portland police is the most striking thing about our Occupy protest as it settles into its tent-city vibe for another peaceful day in downtown Portland.”

Occupy Portland organizers to police: No thanks on permit“PORTLAND, OR (KPTV) -Portland police say the organizers of an Occupy Portland event will not be obtaining a permit or sharing any information about a march route in advance of Thursday’s event. A spokesman for the police bureau says organizers faxed police a message that says, ‘For best impact we will march in the streets and disrupt the city.’ “
“Police say they hoped to work with the organizers so the march participants could lawfully be in the street and so traffic could continue to move through downtown with little interruption.”
The whole idea behind a protest is to peacefully disrupt the status quo and bring attention to a major problem. Of course they aren’t going to march in some cordoned area where they are neither heard nor do they get the message across. THE POINT IS TO HALT THE STATUS QUO AND LISTEN.
