Fraternal Order Of Police – Chicago Lodge 7
More Thanks for a Job Well Done
“Now, after our Mayor, Superintendent, and the citizens of Chicago have heaped praise upon Chicago Police Officers for their excellent work at the NATO Summit, the City has taken the position that Officers are not entitled to compensation for working a sixth or seventh consecutive day during a single calendar week.”
“A class action grievance has already been filed by the Lodge on behalf of any Officer who is entitled to this compensation. Officers need to do nothing more than submit a slip to request compensation and keep anecdotal records. Individual grievances do not need to be filed.”
Well, well, well. Appears that at least some Chicago police may just be ready to jump that fence over to the side of the PEOPLE! They are the 99%, too!

Protesters prepare for larger NATO demonstration
“CHICAGO (AP) — Protesters gathering in Chicago for the NATO summit were gearing up for their largest demonstration Sunday, when thousands are expected to march from a downtown park to the lakeside convention center where President Barack Obama and dozens of other world leaders will meet.”
“Hours before the main demonstration was set to start, protesters were already gathering at Grant Park holding signs including one that read: ‘NATO, Go Home.’ One protester walked with an American flag turned upside down.”
NATO doesn’t just need to go home – it needs to be disassembled. After that, war crimes charges should be brought.

Chicago Jewish Activists Help Homeless Family Take Over Foreclosed Home
“Chicago – A group of Jewish activists marched to a previously abandoned home on the West Side on Monday night, and celebrated the seventh night of Hanukkah with a formerly homeless family now living there.”
“The group said an analysis of 2010 U.S. Census data shows Chicago has 174,000 vacant homes — more than enough to house the homeless.”

11/17/11 Occupy Chicago, Activists Rally For Jobs & Social Services, Not Cuts “Today’s protest is a call for more job creation and the end of corporate greed. The protesters are also calling on congressmen not to cut Medicare, Medicaid and Social Security. The protesters choose to take LaSalle Street bridge because of its dire need for repair, which they say would create jobs. More than 45 people have been arrested so far.”

NBC Chicago: Occupy Chicago, Unions Join Forces
“Occupy Chicago joined forces with several unions participating in one of five Take Back Chicago marches scheduled for Monday afternoon. The various marches eventually joined forces at the Art Insitute Chicago to continue their demands for a solution to the unemployment crisis.”
” ‘The past two days have been huge and tonight we’re hoping for a major turning point when we join up with the unions,’ Cole, 22, said. ‘They say they’re bringing 7000 people. We’ve been growing significantly the last two days and we’re starting to gain some real momentum.’ “

Occupy Chicago: This is What Democracy Looks Like!“Each day there are at least two General Assembly
meetings. These are held off site with some people staying behind to maintain a “presence” at the protest. All decisions are made at the General Assemblies with a majority vote required for anything to pass. They are currently putting together their Mission Statement and list of grievances. Everyone is welcome to join in and have their voices heard. It may take longer to do it this way, but true democracy isn’t always quick or pretty.”

HuffPost: Occupy Chicago Protests Reach 13th Day (Photos, Videos) “As Chicago protests in solidarity with
the Occupy Wall Street demonstration in New York verge onto the start of their third week, participants in the city’s Loop appear to have only just begun their demonstration of dissent.”
“And that remains the case even as Chicago police have asked Occupy Chicago demonstrators to move their belongings off the street outside the Federal Reserve Bank at 231 S. LaSalle St., as NBC 5 reported Tuesday. A dozen protesters remained outside the bank, while other organizers planned to spread their occupation to other areas of the city — “phase two” of the demonstration, as its Twitter feed described Tuesday.”
