They were installed when the chamber was remodeled in 1949-1950″, about the time the Military Industrial Complex was beginning to roar its ugly head.

The Hype: English statesman; advocated representative government; established an early form of representative government in England.
The History: Although Simon V might be seen as “one of the progenitors of modern parliamentary democracy”, his idea of a Parliament fell far short of a fair representation of all the people. If one was not “signed with the Cross” and/or a wealthy landowner, one could not vote. He followed in the footsteps of his father by supporting mass murder by the Crusades as “Soldiers for Christ” in the “Army of God” instigated by Pope Innocent III, and tried at least twice to join the 6th Crusade but a feud with King Henry III ensued. He did expel Jews from Leicester.

The Hype: Student of canon and civil law, who, like Gregory IX, preserved the remnants of Roman law during the Dark Ages.
The History: Pope Innocent III, who substantially goaded on hideous mass murdering of “heretics” such as in the Albigensian Crusade. (Historian Mark Gregory Pegg has written an excellently researched book called “A Most Holy War: The Albigensian Crusade and the Battle for Christendom.” In a letter Innocent III wrote in April 1213 he, ”envisioned Latin Christendom as a world perpetually on crusade, as forever yielding to Him.” (A Most Holy War, Mark Gregory Pegg, pg 126) (emphasis mine)

Gregory IX “Pope Gregory IX instituted the papal inquisition in 1231 for the apprehension and trial of heretics….extend(ing) its activity to include witches, diviners, blasphemers, and other sacrilegious persons.” (i.e. anyone who would not relinquish their life to the power and control of the Roman Empire….er….I mean Church).

The History: Pope Gregory XI was responsible for the massacre of thousands during the “War of The Eight Saints“, after political and culture leader Coluccio Salutati urged several papal-controlled cities to rebel against the “tyrannical” and “corrupt” papal rule, instead urging a return to all’antica Republicanism.

I very much doubt that Thomas Jefferson, George Washington, and other framers of our American Constitution would agree with honoring such viscious men of old. Where is John Locke? Where is Thomas Payne? Well, even Aristotle? Where are the other mentors our founding fathers turned to as part of their inspiration for a country “By The People, For The People” for the first time ever in historical times. Innocent III, Simon de Montfort and their ilk mongered for a world RUN by the Aristocracy and FOR the Aristocracy. Period.
In view of the recent crossing-the-line death-threat remarks made by radio host Michael Reagan , his callous and thoroughly hateful speech about Middle Eastern citizens and calling dissemination of The Truth a “treasonous act”, I wonder if his relief should not be joined with these other insane life-haters as yet another “Great Crusader” in the “Army of God.”
